Whether this is your first birth or your fourth, it's normal to have questions. Here are some common ones families ask when deciding to work with a doula.
A birth doula provides continuous emotional, physical, and informational support during pregnancy, labor, and shortly after birth. I offer comfort techniques, reassurance, advocacy, and help you navigate decisions so you feel confident and supported throughout your birth experience.
A doula is not a medical provider. Unlike a midwife or doctor who monitors your clinical care, I focus entirely on your comfort, emotional well-being, and personal support. I work alongside your medical team to help create a more positive, empowered birth experience.
Many families choose to reach out in the second trimester to reserve their spot, but you're welcome to connect with me whenever the time feels right. Our first prenatal visit is usually around 32 weeks, giving us a beautiful window of time to get to know each other, talk through your hopes for birth, and create a support plan that feels just right for you.
Yes, I support all hospital births, birth center births, and home births with a licensed midwife. I'm here to provide compassionate, continuous support in whichever safe birth setting you choose. My role remains the same - helping you feel calm, empowered, and supported throughout your experience.
That’s wonderful! My role is to enhance - not replace -your partner’s support. I offer guidance and reassurance so they can show up for you more confidently and stay grounded in their role. We work together as a team to support you.
Partners are a deeply important part of the birth team, and I’m here to support them too. I help partners feel more confident and involved by offering gentle guidance, showing them hands-on comfort techniques, and suggesting ways to connect with and support you throughout labor. I also make sure they’re taking care of themselves - encouraging breaks, hydration, rest, and emotional grounding - so they can be present and at their best when you need them most. My presence allows both of you to feel supported and stay connected through the entire experience.
Absolutely. I support all kinds of births—medicated, unmedicated, planned, or unexpected. My role is to support your choices and help you feel calm, informed, and empowered no matter how your birth unfolds.
Yes, doulas are especially helpful for VBACs. I provide emotional encouragement, education on VBAC options, and continuous support during labor, which has been shown to improve birth satisfaction and reduce unnecessary interventions.
Yes. I work collaboratively with your medical providers and help ensure your preferences are communicated respectfully. I also encourage you to ask questions, speak up, and make informed choices - empowering you to be your own best advocate.
Once active labor begins and you’re ready for support, I’ll join you at home or your birth location. I stay with you continuously through labor and birth, and remain for a short time afterward to help with early bonding and breastfeeding.
My service includes two prenatal visits, continuous labor support, birth photography, breastfeeding guidance, and a postpartum visit. You can learn more about what’s included by clicking the "Learn more about my services" button below.
